Garden Pond and Fountain Statuary For Stunning Water Gardens - Duck, Dolphin and Mermaid Fountains
Fountains and statues have been very much a feature of gardens for many centuries, and they grace many famous gardens around the world. Often, you see statues beside a fountain or in a pond below a fountain, and such statues are often of creatures associated with water. Herons, fish, frogs and many other animals have played their part in garden pond statuary, and will no doubt continue to do so.
There is also a variation of the fountain and statue combination that is very popular, albeit quite unnatural, and that is to have a statue that also doubles as a fountain.
The three pictures on this page are all of fountain statuary, or statues that act as fountains too. That does not mean to say you have to use them as fountains, you can always just set up the statues and not add the pump necessary to transform them into working fountains. However, for a lovely water garden effect, and getting value for your money, each of these statues can have water pumps added to create a fountain.
The first picture is of a small brass duck fountain, a classic fresh water bird most suited to a pond situation in a garden. The brass will weather into an attractive finish, making this a classy piece of garden decor.
Secondly, one the world's most popular sea creatures, the dolphin, is featured, in this case a set of three dolphins of different sizes. They are sold individually, so your dolphin family can be as large as small as you like, spouting water from their mouths in your chosen water garden location.
Another popular sea creature, the mythical mermaid, makes another leap from salt to fresh water with the final featured fountain. The mermaid shown here has the traditional beauty in shining brass, but the mermaid is thought by many to refer to a dugong, or sea cow. While the dugong may not be as beautiful as the fictional mermaid, the word is derived from a Malay word for lady of the sea. They are sadly in a vulnerable state in their once wide range, which includes the seas near my home in Palawan.
